Growing up my parents had a console stereo and I ♥ed it. As a matter of fact, I ♥ed it so much that they kept it stored away in the basement for me after they moved it out of the house because I wanted to keep it for myself to have one day. Unfortunately our basement flooded and ruined it :( and to this day it makes me sad. My brother and I used to spend hours playing records on that thing. I have many fond memories associated with it. I've got to see if I can find a picture of it somewhere.
Fast forward to today and we've decided that we want one. Brandon and I. We want to turn off the TV and play old records and dance around with our kids in the living room … just like I did as a kid. So we're on the hunt. Currently we're scouring antique store and sales and Craig's List.
In the meantime we've decided to begin our own little vinyl collection. Many of the records will be things that we can listen to as a family, or that our kids can listen to on their own. I did find this yesterday:

And we bought 10 45s:
Yes, that's Xanadu … how could I pass it up?
Now if only we can find a console stereo to play them! I can't wait to here the crackling and the scratches :)

ReplyDeleteI very much wish I had an extra console stereo for you...I have the one that belonged to my grandparents, I remember them playing their 'sound of music' soundtrack on it for us when I was little. When we were going through their house to divy up stuff and decide what to sell, etc., I was shocked that no one else wanted it and it was tagged for a garage sale. Mom even found the original receipt, 'Boppa' bought it from sears I think in the 50s. Anytime you want to come over and visit with it you can! I think it still works....

ReplyDelete1. I'd have to first plug it in to see if it works (mom swears it does, but you know how moms swear..) and 2. you'd have to bring the vinyl. I have none. :)
Oh how my girls would adore playing with your 'big girl' girls...Your girls might not, but oh well.
